Shorewood Hills’ proposed $6.5 million purchase of the Lodgic Building is facing pushback from many area residents, The Capital Times reports.
The Lodgic Building is a 24,500-square-foot, mixed-use building completed in 2020 and owned by Moose International. The building previously housed Everyday Kitchen Restaurant & Bar, Clever Moose Market Cafe, a day care center called Lodgic Kids Camp and the Lodgic Workplace co-working space.
It has 64 underground parking spaces and roughly 12,000 square feet of office space.
The building on Marshall Court would replace the community’s current Village Hall on Shorewood Boulevard, which, according to village leaders, is functionally and energy inefficient as a result of years of deferred maintenance.
While the Village Board did not take action at its Tuesday meeting, many residents gathered to oppose the proposal, questioning the estimated cost or expressing anger at not being better informed on the village’s plans prior to the meeting.
Among community members’ voiced concerns was that while the purchase would give the village more visibility — as the Lodgic Building is adjacent to University Avenue — that would come at the expense of residents’ access to public facilities and the current Village Hall’s connection to Shorewood Hills.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the building owner and office space size of the Lodgic Building.
