SHINE Technologies and Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) Therapeutics, WARF’s drug discovery program, released findings that cancer drugs using SHINE’s Ilumira product could extend patients’ lifespans and more effectively treat kidney and prostate cancer. The research was conducted at UW–Madison’s Advanced Radiotheranostics Lab.
Greg Piefer, CEO and co-founder of Janesvilled-based SHINE, which has offices in Fitchburg and Veendam, The Netherlands, says the research results validate Ilumira’s effectiveness over the standard care for cancer treatment. The research looked at the performance of two drugs: WT-7695 and ART-101.
SHINE also received a roughly $11.3 million grant from the Dutch government to University Medical Center Gonigen and SHINE Europe, the company’s European subsidiary. Funds will be put toward the “Terbium for Life” project, which seeks to enhance Europe’s cancer treatment capabilities and bolster the continent’s medical isotopes supply chain.
