Rep. Bryan Steil, who represents Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, announced the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Dominance Financing will award radiopharmaceuticals company SHINE Chrysalis in Janesville a $263 million loan to support the construction of a new medical manufacturing facility in the city.

The facility will use fusion and fission technology to provide a supply of Molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), a medical isotope used in diagnostic imaging. Once completed, it would be the largest facility of its kind, and according to the DOE, it could provide more than 75% of U.S. Mo-99 demand.

“American supply chains ensure health care workers and patients have access to the lifesaving tools they need to identify and fight diseases like cancer and heart disease. This critical work to save lives will now be done right here in Janesville,” Steil said in a statement. “Thank you, Sec.Wright and the Department of Energy for investing in Wisconsin and congratulations to SHINE on receiving this loan.”
