The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investing in additional surveillance technology in the coming months, The Capital Times reports. Officials say it will improve safety for deputies in high-risk operations.
The technology resembles a heavy-duty, remote-controlled car with video and audio recording equipment. The sheriff’s office received a $12,000 grant for the purchase from Wisconsin Emergency Management and the Department of Military Affairs. The technology is set to be ordered this month and available for use by summer.
The technology is reportedly being purchased for the Tactical Response Team and will help deputies gain visual access inside buildings without requiring physical entry. It will be purchased from Axon, a company that specializes in law enforcement technology.
The news comes after the Dane County Board of Supervisors and Dane County Executive Melissa Agard in March signed off on adjusting the sheriff’s annual budget to accept the state grant money for the purchase.
