New group Shelter Friends of Dane County wants to raise between $1 million and $1.5 million for the Bartillon shelter, according to a WKOW report.
Madison’s new homeless shelter, the city’s first purpose-built shelter, is set to open next spring and is seeking additional funds to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Having a shelter stay open continuously helps homeless people to find housing. Bartillon intends to be open continuously and will have 250 beds.
Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said the city will match the first $2 million of private donations to the shelter.
