State transportation officials are set to implement a revamped vehicle-emissions testing program in southeast Wisconsin next month that will shift emission inspections from a limited number of centralized test centers to a network of 200 private businesses.
The new system, which goes into operation July 2, is expected to save $597,340 a year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
“It’s better convenience for motorists and less expensive for the state. It really is a win for everybody,” said Scott Selbach, who supervises the DOT’s vehicle emissions inspection program.
