Shakti to close State Street store

Shakti, a metaphysical bookstore that has called State Street home for more than 40 years, will close soon. Owner Allan Ajaya said the store, which recently added yoga and meditation supplies to its offerings, was no longer profitable, hurt by Internet retailing and other factors. Shakti is the third long-time State Street retailer in the past two months to decide to pull up stakes. Yellow Jersey moved out of town at the end of September and Gino’s will close at the end of this month due to the retirement of its owner.
