There is still no resolution for the federal government shutdown, with Senate Democrats rejecting a stopgap spending bill for the 10th time, saying they won’t move forward with the bill until Congress ensures health care tax credits, according to an Associated Press report.
The bill vote failed 51-45 on Thursday, short of the 60 votes needed to advance the bill.
It has been over two weeks since the government shutdown began. Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have been furloughed during that time, and federal institutions like the Smithsonian museums remain closed.
Democrats demand a guarantee on extending the tax credits for health plans. Premiums could spike without a supportive resolution.
Nearly 24 million people receive health insurance from subsidized marketplaces, according to KFF, a health care research nonprofit.
