Schools, roads, 4 UW Health clinics face closures, delays following storm

Classes were canceled for the Madison Metropolitan School District today following thousands of power outages and road closures after Tuesday night’s storms, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. Middleton–Cross Plains School District schools remain open, with the exception of Sunset Ridge Elementary School, which also experienced a power outage.

Local private schools including Our Lady Queen of Peace and Woodland Montessori canceled today’s classes as well, and Our Redeemer was set to open two hours late.

As of 6:50 a.m. today, Alliant Energy had 8,409 customers without power, and that number for Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) was 25,625 as of 6:54 a.m. MGE said it is reaching out to mutual assistance groups, seeking additional crews to assist with power restoration efforts.

In addition, UW Health said four clinics would be closed until 12 p.m. today due to power outages, including Yahara Clinic, Science Drive Medical Center, Digestive Health Center, and Cross Plains Clinic.
