Madison’s Schoep’s Ice cream received a citation for illegally dumping ice cream ingredients and dye into a storm sewer, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The city attorney’s office reportedly received referrals from Public Health Madison and Dane County regarding two such incidents last year.

While the health agency did not identify the ice cream manufacturer, City Attorney Michael Haas confirmed it is Schoep’s, located at 514 Division St. Haas said local officials “are working with the business to facilitate and document compliance and prevent future releases,” adding that if compliance is unsatisfactory, Madison usually moves forward with prosecution.

Shoep’s has paid five fines totaling roughly $5,000 for public health citations since 2023, according to Haas.
