The State Building Commission (SBC) at its Tuesday meeting deadlocked on recommendations for new capital spending in the upcoming budget, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The SBC ceded its authority once again to the Legislature’s GOP-controlled budget committee.

The committee vote, 4-4 along party lines, was expected. The same has happened on three previous capital budget recommendations by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers since 2019. Because of the tie, the budget committee will now choose which projects will receive priority during the upcoming biennial budget negotiations.

The news comes after Evers urged the SBC earlier Tuesday to support the projects recommended in his $4.1 billion capital spending plan.
