The Salvation Army of Dane County has launched “Given When No One’s Looking,” a summer fundraising effort to help offset the nearly tripled need for emergency shelter due to the pandemic, according to a release from the organization. Last July, the Salvation Army helped 22 families find emergency shelter. Last month, 59 families were helped with another 34 on a waitlist.
Additionally, summer day camp organizers at The Salvation Army are delivering weekly boxed activity kits and meals to 32 children who would normally be participating in in-person activities.
The organization received a $50,000 match offered by an anonymous donor and will launch both virtual and in-person Kettle fundraising efforts. Kettle Pay for smartphones and Text-to-Give instructions will accompany about 25 Kettles in Dane County, and a Facebook Live event is also scheduled. The campaign will run through Aug. 1. Volunteers are encouraged to ring bells. People can donate online or by texting “DANE” to 24365 with any smartphone.
