Rutabaga Paddlesports owner Darren Bush on Sunday announced that the business will close at the end of this year as Bush works to become a certified professional chaplain, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
The announcement comes three years after Rutabaga opened a $3 million sustainably constructed Fitchburg store at 2620 Rimrock Road.
Bush became sole owner of the company in 2007 and was previously a general manager.
He will go back to school part-time next winter for a Clinical Pastoral Education certification to be a professional chaplain, will intern at University Hospital during that time and will be the chaplain in the emergency room or hospice wing afterward.
The paddlesports expo Canoecopia, which Bush organizes, will continue, he said.
