Adding to its business footprint in Asia’s growing motor control market, Rockwell Automation has acquired the assets of the medium voltage drives business of Harbin Jiuzhou Electric Co., Ltd. in Harbin, China.

The acquisition price amounts to approximately $83 million U.S. dollars. Closing is expected in October.

The Milwaukee-based Rockwell said the acquisition strengthens its presence in the Asia-Pacific motor control market by adding significant capabilities in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of medium voltage drive products. It also provides access to grid-tie inverter technology.

Jiuzhou has served as Rockwell Automation’s contract manufacturer for seven years.

Rockwell employs more than 1,900 people in China, including 35 sales offices, five training centers, and manufacturing and research facilities.
