Milwaukee-based Rockwell Automation has secured a $1.9 million order to provide a control system for an Indian solar power plant.

Lauren-Jyoti, a joint venture between Lauren Engineers & Constructors, a U.S. engineering and construction company, and Jyoti Power Structures, its Indian counterpart, awarded the contract to Rockwell.

Lauren-Jyoti has been awarded a contract to construct a 50-megawatt concentrated green field solar power plant. The plant will be one of the first utility-scale solar thermal power plants commissioned in India, which has established a program to increase solar power to 20,000 megawatts by 2020.

Rockwell said the contract represents an opportunity to set industry standards for solar power plants.

Robert Heard, instrumentation and controls manager for Lauren Engineers and Contractors, said Rockwell won the order because of its ability to deliver a scalable automation solution that includes process control, mirror controllers, and motor controls.
