A collaborative effort between the city and county, the feds, and the state culminated in the recent opening of Rethke Terrace Apartments at 715 Rethke Ave. on Madison’s east side.

An example of permanent supportive housing developed by Heartland Housing, Rethke Terrace is a four-story building with 60 studio apartments designed for single adults working their way out of homelessness.

Support services for medical, mental health, and substance abuse are also available to tenants and provided by Heartland Health Outreach.

Rethke Terrace is the first of five supportive housing developments that Madison Mayor Paul Soglin has committed to.
