Consumer spending increased in June after a prior pullback, the Associated Press reports.
The Commerce Department said Thursday that retail sales rose a better-than-expected 0.6% last month, despite anxiety over tariffs and the state of the U.S. economy. Retail sales had seen a 0.9% decline in May and a 0.1% drop in April.
Sales rose 0.5% in June, excluding autos and automotive parts, according to the Commerce Department.
Clothing and accessories stores reported a 0.9% increase in sales, while restaurants had a 0.6% increase, and online retailers saw a 0.4% gain.
