Report: Wisconsin well above average for new business applications

A new report from Self Financial looking at the U.S. states that have seen the largest increase in new business applications ranked Wisconsin 20th for new business applications. In 2019, Wisconsin received 43,950 new business applications and that number increased to 52,880 applications in 2020. Of all states, Wisconsin experienced the 20th largest increase in business applications from 2019 to 2020. The Madison metropolitan area received 6,028 new business applications in 2019 and 6,723 applications in 2020. Across the U.S., there was a nearly 25% increase in new business applications and that increase held relatively steady through 2021.
