A new report from the American Hotel and Lodging Association shows that 33% of Americans say they have traveled overnight for leisure or vacation since March and only 38% say they are likely to do so by the end of the year. Additionally, just 16% of Americans plan to travel for Labor Day, 25% for Thanksgiving, and 29% for Christmas. Other key findings in the report include:
- Only 14% of hotel rooms are booked for this coming Labor Day weekend, compared to 41% a year ago.
- Nationally, five out of 10 hotel rooms are empty. Occupancy is just 38% in urban markets and 45% in hotels near airports.
- Four out of 10 hotel employees are still not working.
