After the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s tariffs in February, he enacted a plan with new ones, and according to New Census Bureau data released Wednesday, they’re costing businesses.
Based on the new data, American businesses paid approximately $8 billion in Section 122 tariffs in March, the first full month the new tariffs were in effect. These tariffs come from Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allow for a sitting president to impose temporary tariffs of up to 15% for up to 150 days.
The total paid by businesses due to Trump’s tariffs originally enacted in March 2025 has reached $283 billion.
Wisconsin importers paid $4.5 billion in tariffs from March 2025 to March 2026.
