Relocation could save restaurant building

Unless it can be moved to a new location, Wonder Bar steakhouse could be demolished if a new 18-story housing project moves forward, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. McGrath Property Group, the developer for the project, has agreed to preserve and relocate the building to a new location that can be identified within a mile of its current location at 222 E. Olin Ave. Neighborhood residents and the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation advocacy committee said they will start looking for a site that would work. The building may not necessarily remain a steakhouse if relocated.
