Madison city engineers have a proposal to change Regent Street from four to two lanes to make it more pedestrian friendly and to help businesses, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
The project could change Regent into a “destination/shopping street with a strong sense of place,” according to a city document.
This could be accomplished by creating wider sidewalks, protected bike lanes and reducing four traffic lanes to one in each direction with a flex lane used for turning.
The section chosen for redevelopment stretches for roughly half a mile between Camp Randall Stadium and the Kohl Center.
Three varying plans are under consideration, with construction possibly beginning March 2027.
