Affordable housing is a top issue in the race to represent District 1 on the Dane County Board, Channel3000 reports. A June 17 special election to fill the district that oversees seven of the isthmus’ wards will pit Adrian Lampron, a law office manager, and Colin Barushok, a legislative assistant, against one another for the seat.

Elizabeth Doyle, District 1’s previous county supervisor, left her position in March due to rent increases. While downtown Madison’s vacancy rate (around 3.5%) has improved roughly 1% over the past year, the area’s rent has increased by 1.8%. The city of Madison says only New York City has a tighter rental market in the U.S.

Lampron and Barushok sat down at the first and probably only forum on Tuesday.
