Gov. Tony Evers has issued a new face coverings order and declared a new public health emergency due to the recent surge in cases among young people in the state. The Executive Order No. 90, declaring a public health emergency, and Emergency Order No. 1, requiring face coverings in enclosed spaces, are effective immediately and will expire after 60 days with a subsequent superseding order.
The state has seen a surge in cases, especially among young people with the start of the school year. Young adults 18 to 24 years old have a case rate five times higher than any other age group. Wisconsin is now experiencing rapid growth of positive COVID-19 tests with the daily number of new cases rising from 678 on Aug. 31 to 1,791 on Sept. 21.
