The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin announced on Friday that major modifications to a tariff will protect existing customers from price hikes related to We Energies’ data center rate proposal.

PSC approved a special rate plan for data center-scale customers on Friday related to the We Energies project to protect customers.

In March 2025, We Energies submitted an application seeking approval of its Very Large Customer and Bespoke Resources Tariffs

PSC conducted a year-long review of the tariff application. During that time, members of the public and participating organizations raised concerns about aspects of the utilitys application and how it could affect customers.

The modification after the review will “strengthen protections for We Energies’ existing customers and increase transparency and visibility,” PSC said in a statement.

The commission enacted modifications that will prevent cost-shifting to existing customers.

“We need to do everything within our jurisdiction to make sure data center customers will pay their own way, fully and transparently, and other customers will be held harmless,” PSC Commissioner Kristy Nieto said in a statement.
