Public Service Commission (PSC) Chair Summer Strand has estimated that nearly every underserved or unserved community in Wisconsin could have broadband access by 2030, according to Wisconsin Public Radio. The agency expects to roll out a $1.1 billion federal grant program early next year.
Since 2019, the state has spent around $200 million on broadband expansion, and the PSC estimates that over 410,000 homes and businesses have gained access to new or better broadband services in that time. The remaining areas lacking access, however, are the most difficult to reach and most expensive to connect.
