The Wisconsin Public Service Commission has approved the construction of the 465-megawatt Koshkonong Solar Energy Center, Wisconsin’s largest renewable energy plant, according to a report from Wisconsin Public Radio. The town of Christiana and the village of Cambridge, along with neighbors to the site, opposed the project but supporters say it will speed the transition to clean energy. The $649 million project is a partnership between utilities owned by Milwaukee-based WEC Energy Group and Madison Gas and Electric. The project will host 300 megawatts of solar and 165 megawatts of battery storage. During peak construction, the plant is expected to create 600 jobs. It is also expected to inject $140 million into the local economy over the life of the plant.
