Wisconsin’s Public Service Commission (PSC) last Thursday approved rate increases for We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service, according to Wisconsin Public Radio. Owned by WEC Energy Group, both utilities applied for the rate hikes in April.
The utilities cited the need to amplify forestry efforts to bolster reliability, as well as construction costs for renewable energy and natural gas facilities, behind the increases. The PSC emphasized the necessity of balancing demand for safe, reliable, and environmentally sustainable utility service with affordability.
The commission approved an overall electric rate increase of 8.79% for We Energies over the next two years — about $188 million less than the utility requested. That will mean $7.62 added to 2025 monthly electric bills for the average residential We Energies customer, and $9.73 added to bills in 2026.
Wisconsin Public Service was approved for a 7.33% overall electric rate hike over the next two years, $134 million less than requested. Average residential customers will see monthly electric bill increases of $7.11 in 2025 and $5.04 in 2026.
