A proposed Buc-ee’s travel center in DeForest reportedly remains in a “holding pattern,” according to The Star. Buc-ee’s in 2023 brought a proposal before the DeForest Village board for a 74,000-square-foot travel center — the company’s first store in the Midwest.
The center would offer fuel for motorists, as well as food items, gifts, and a variety of other products. The plan included 120 fueling stations under two canopies, with two parking lots, 613 parking spaces, and 20 electric vehicle charging stations.
The infrastructure improvements necessary to accommodate the site’s increased traffic were more costly than expected, however — coming in somewhere between $12 million and $16 million. It’s more than the village can finance without assistance.
Village officials reportedly requested state and county funding and may consider Tax Incremental Financing as well.
