Madison-based Propeller Health, which makes sensors that monitor a patient’s use of respiratory inhalers, will receive $21.5 million from investors including major pharmaceutical companies both here and abroad.

The money will be used to improve its technology to better personalize treatment, launch more studies overseas, and potentially as many as 20 more employees in the next year.

The company has received $44.5 million in investment since launching in 2010.
