Promega is seeking FDA approval of a clinical-grade test to determine how well tumor cells correct DNA errors, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The test was developed through scientific serendipity from NASA research and can identify cancer patients likely to have Lynch syndrome, an inherited disorder that increases the risk of colon and other cancers. The test can help doctors decide whether the patients should be treated with new immunotherapies. The research stems from a 20-year-old grant from NASA that enabled Promega to study the effects of deep-space radiation on the DNA of astronauts.
