Promega launches compact DNA analysis system

Fitchburg-based Promega has launched its Spectrum Compact CE System, developed in collaboration with Hitachi High-Tech, according to a release from the company. The personal CE system is an integrated DNA analysis instrument that allows scientists to look closely at the information contained by DNA and separate DNA fragments by size using thin capillaries and an electrical gradient. The technique is important for life science researchers who need to know exactly what is encoded by a piece of DNA, as well as forensic scientists analyzing a piece of genetic evidence and looking for a match. The compact size allows scientists to do DNA analysis at their benchtop.
