What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?
Balancing the operational, financial and human resource needs of our clients at Anchored Agency & AFH — a home health, social services and consulting firm — while ensuring high standards of care and service is a constant challenge.
Each company requires a different set of strategic considerations, and aligning them with my core values of integrity, compassion and excellence can sometimes feel overwhelming. However, the most rewarding aspect of my work is seeing the direct impact we make in the lives of the people we serve.
Who do you look up to or admire in business?
I deeply admire Myra McNair, the owner of Anesis Therapy, as well as other Black business owners who have overcome significant barriers to create successful businesses. Myra’s ability to combine compassion with professionalism in the mental health field is truly inspiring. She has built a thriving practice focused on healing and empowerment, and her dedication to supporting individuals within the community resonates with my own mission of making a difference through service.
What has been the high point of your career so far?
One of the high points has been writing and publishing my book, “The Ultimate Guide to Establishing a Profitable Adult Family Home.” Becoming an author was a dream come true and a significant milestone in my professional journey. It allowed me to share my knowledge and experiences with a wider audience and provide valuable insights to others in my field.
Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
It would be to trust the journey and embrace the challenges along the way. At that age, I was eager to succeed quickly and often felt pressure to have everything figured out. What I’ve learned over the years is that growth takes time, and it’s OK to not have all the answers right away.
I would also tell myself to invest in relationships — both personal and professional. Building a strong network of mentors, peers and friends has been invaluable to my success.
Lastly, I’d remind myself to practice patience and self-compassion. There will be setbacks and obstacles, but each one is an opportunity to learn and grow. Stay true to your values, trust your instincts and remember that success is a marathon, not a sprint.
