It looks like Dane County is going back to the drawing board on its $148 million jail project, thanks to pandemic-related increases in construction costs. According to an article in The Capital Times, consultants have told the county the cost increases could result in substantial budget overruns.
County Executive Joe Parisi, who expects an updated cost estimate in September, acknowledged that plan B could include a revised project design and timetable. Part of the reevaluation will be an examination of how initiatives to reduce the jail population could affect the size and scope of the jail.
