Port Washington residents ask DNR to deny air quality permits for data center

Residents of Port Washington are asking the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to deny a proposed data center project’s air quality permits needed for its construction, citing a lack of environmental researchWisconsin Public Radio reported 

 

The DNR said Denver-based developer Vantage meets air pollution limits with its 45 diesel-fired generators that will power the data center campus if a power outage occurs 

Residents spoke at a virtual public hearing on Tuesday asking for the denial and a more robust review of the air quality effects.

Construction of the $15 billion Vantage Data Centers campus is ongoing as part of plans by OpenAI and Oracle to expand its AI operations.
