Residents of Port Washington are asking the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to deny a proposed data center project’s air quality permits needed for its construction, citing a lack of environmental research, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.
The DNR said Denver-based developer Vantage meets air pollution limits with its 45 diesel-fired generators that will power the data center campus if a power outage occurs.
Residents spoke at a virtual public hearing on Tuesday asking for the denial and a more robust review of the air quality effects.
Construction of the $15 billion Vantage Data Centers campus is ongoing as part of plans by OpenAI and Oracle to expand its AI operations.
