Madison’s Porchlight, which provides shelter and supportive services for those experiencing homelessness, is seeking donations as it prepares to temporarily expand its capacity amid freezing temperatures, Channel3000 reports. In the event of extreme weather, Porchlight and other shelters do not turn away clients due to the increased danger of being outside.

Porchlight is currently operating from a temporary location on Zeier Road, where it has been since 2022, and its typical capacity there has reportedly been around 250 but can expand by nearly 100 in extremely cold weather.

With increasing demand for shelters and more freezing temperatures to come, the organization is relying largely on donations to serve clients. Click here to donate or learn more.
