Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley leads Republican Tom Tiffany in the first poll released on the Wisconsin governor’s race since Crowley’s come-from-behind victory in the Democratic Party primary.
Wisconsin Public Radio reported that Crowley, a Democrat, leads Tiffany, a conservative who represents the state’s 7th Congressional District, 48-44, in a Badger Battleground poll of likely voters.
The poll, conducted by Platform Communications, surveyed 500 likely general election voters on Aug. 12 and 13.
Platform Communications was founded by Republican strategist Keith Gilkes, an adviser to former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Gilkes serves as the company’s executive chairman while Brian Reisinger, who has worked for both Walker and U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, is its CEO.
The poll said Crowley’s lead is driven by independent voters, who favor him 42% to 30%.
Democratic strategist Tanya Bjork, who worked for former President Barack Obama, helped conduct the poll.
The more established Marquette Law School Poll has yet to release a survey about the general election of the Wisconsin governor’s race.
The election is Nov. 3. The winner will succeed Gov. Tony Evers, who chose not to run for a third term.
