The Madison police union has approved a vote of no confidence in Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and says they were misled before endorsing her in last year’s election, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The vote comes as the police and the city are overwhelmed by the fallout from the police-involved murder of George Floyd in Minnesota and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city is also dealing with a sharp uptick in gun violence and shots are reportedly being fired daily all over the city. The Madison Professional Police Officers Association says members voted thoughtfully and believe the major has broken promises to work with the police. Instead, they feel the mayor has painted an unhealthy picture of the police and created an “us versus them” atmosphere.
