Sun Prairie police reported early today that a man was arrested Monday night after stabbing and critically injuring another man at a Walmart Supercenter in Sun Prairie, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Police responded to the store at 1905 McCoy Road at 10:17 p.m. They found a 36-year-old man with multiple stab wounds and, along with store employees and Sun Prairie EMS, provided life-saving measures. The man was then taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
The suspect’s vehicle was located in the area after witnesses provided vehicle descriptions. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled at high speed. The pursuit that followed included Madison and Maple Bluff police as well as the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect was caught after spikes were deployed and the vehicle hit them, crashing at East Washington Avenue and Brearly Street at 10:26 p.m. The suspect, Miguel Angel Barajas-Ceballos, 22, of Sun Prairie, was arrested on a tentative charge of attempted homicide. He was taken to the Dane County Jail.
The investigation suggests that Barajas-Ceballos and the man he stabbed did not know each other. The former began attacking the latter shortly after entering the store. The investigation is ongoing.
