Madison-based Plumb Pharmaceuticals has switched its mission from pain management for animals to opioid treatment for humans, according to a Wisconsin State Journalstory.
The company has developed a way to help recovering opioid addicts by injecting medication-filled liposomes under the skin to significantly prolong the release of medication for months, making the possibility of relapses, which often occur at the end of a medication cycle, less frequent.
The company is on track to move into human trials, and if the FDA approves, Plumb Pharmaceuticals could begin licensing its method to another manufacturer in 2023.
