Metro Transit officials this week confirmed that plans for a north-south Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route in Madison — set to receive around 75% of its funding from federal grants — are still on track, despite significant spending cutbacks by the Trump administration, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The project is expected to be completed by 2028.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration one year ago recommended awarding $118 million to Madison’s second BRT route, which follows the launch of an east-west route launched in September 2024. That route received $110 million in federal funds.
Metro is working under the assumption that the second route will still receive federal support but reportedly has contingency plans as well.
