A proposed home for young adults will be reviewed by Madison’s Plan Commission on Jan. 22, according to The Capital Times. The project is part of an effort to redevelop the Hartmeyer site near the former Oscar Mayer plant.
Commissioners will also be considering updates to a project that would develop over 500 affordable housing units, also on the north side near the plant. The project was previously approved.
Through the transitional housing proposal, the Dane County Department of Human Services would convert an existing three-story house at 1738 Roth St. to accommodate six residents for up to two years. It is 2,700 square feet in area and would have nine bedrooms, an office space, and dining areas.
A full-time resident mentor would be provided as part of the program, which aims to help people ages 18–21 who are transitioning from homelessness or foster care. Program services would provide assistance in finding permanent housing, gaining employment, financial management, relationship building, securing transportation, and understanding rental rights and responsibilities.
Dane County Human Services is currently seeking proposals for a vendor to run the program.
