The Madison Plan Commission approved a proposal to rezone the Fleet Services property at 202 N. First St. and create a planned development, clearing an important hurdle for the Madison Public Market project, according to report by The Capital Times. The City Council weighs in next week.
The year-round market would be operated by the Public Market Foundation and feature local vendors offering fresh produce, culturally-diverse foods, and handcrafted goods. It will also serve as a business incubator.
The city-owned Fleet Services building is a 43,500-square-foot structure with a mezzanine. Once Fleet Services relocates to a larger facility currently under construction at 4151 Nakoosa Trail, Minneapolis-based MSR Design will begin renovations.
