On Monday, the city Plan Commission backed a zoning change to make way for a Veridian Homes development comprising a mix of 600 homes and apartments on a stretch of farmland on Madison’s far west side, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The development, “Midpoint Meadows,” includes city plans for parks and new road projects, including a 40-acre expansion of Elver Park still being negotiated. The project site sits south of Mid Town Road and northwest of Raymond Road. The site’s farmland was historically owned by Marty Century Farm.

A 2.2-acre part of the development planned for commercial use has yet to receive a vote from the Plan Commission. The commission unanimously backed the rezoning for the housing portion of the development; it now goes before the City Council for final approval.
