Local health care experts gathered Oct. 2 to discuss how artificial intelligence is changing the health care industry at the second annual In Business Madison Health Care Summit in downtown Madison.
Held at the Best Western Premier Park Hotel, the event also recognized IB Madison’s Health Care Heroes award recipients for their service to the community.
Dr. Frank Byrne, chief medical officer of Forward Health Group, led a lively conversation with panelists Carissa Kathuria of electronic medical records giant Epic, Dr. Ibuki Kimura of SSM Health and Frank Liao of UW Health. They provided a glimpse of how AI applications are currently used in health care and how they might improve future care — and also what guardrails need to be in place to avoid possible pitfalls.
Panelists said AI can help clinicians make more precise decisions and deliver better patient care, and AI can streamline hospital operations.
After the panel, IB Madison recognized Health Care Heroes, local medical professionals who had been nominated by their peers, managers and patients for their commitment and outstanding service in the field. Presenting sponsor Quartz helped deliver the awards to the honorees.
