After a recent court order found that a 2013 Wisconsin state statute was contrary to federal law, some people initially ineligible for state unemployment benefits because they received Social Security Disability Insurance may now be eligible for past unemployment benefits.

Per the federal court order, the Department of Workforce Development will process unemployment insurance claims for individuals receiving SSDI.

Under the court’s July 14 preliminary injunction, beginning July 20, eligible individuals were able to receive both SSDI and Wisconsin UI benefits.
