Pellitteri Waste Systems customers — including the cities of Madison, Fitchburg, Middleton, and Sun Prairie in Dane County — will now be able to recycle paper cups. The company has added a new recycling sorting technology at its material recovery facility in which paper cups can be recycled with food and beverage cartons and other paper products. Previously, paper cups were not accepted recyclables. This program expansion is supported in part with a grant from the Foodservice Packaging Institute and the Carton Council of North America. The company estimates that the new recycling capability will affect more than 215,000 Madison-area households.
