Donald Trump’s administration will restart SNAP food benefits, but it will be $3 billion short of the full amount, according to an NPR report.

Money from an Agriculture Department contingency fund will be used, but it only covers $5 billion instead of the $8 billion monthly cost.

The move comes after two federal judges ruled that freezing SNAP payments is unlawful. About 42 million Americans rely on SNAP, including 700,000 in Wisconsin.

Benefits may not resume for several days. About 1 in 8 U.S. residents received an average of $187 a month per person from SNAP. About 39% of recipients are under 18.
