As health orders expire, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi is asking local businesses to continue to allow employees to work from home to reduce traffic, improve air quality, and fight climate change, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The COVID-19 pandemic and related reduction in commuting last year created the steepest decline in greenhouse gas emissions since World War II. Worldwide, the drop in vehicle traffic accounted for about half of the 200-million-metric-ton reduction. Locally, transportation accounts for about 29% of local greenhouse gas emissions. Continuing to telecommute, Parisi argues, could have a significant positive impact on future generations.
