Parisi proposes $10 million boost for renewable-gas vehicles

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi has proposed bolstering Dane County’s infrastructure for renewable-gas vehicles by purchasing trailers of an eco-friendly alternative so the vehicles can fill up anywhere, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The $10 million investment would allow more compressed natural gas — from a facility that converts methane gas from rotting trash at the landfill into gas for the county’s vehicle fleet — to be more readily accessible and reduce the county’s reliance on diesel fuel. Parisi proposes spending $5 million dollars for trailers of compressed natural gas for the county’s 100 natural-gas-powered vehicles, another $2 million for a new compressed-natural-gas filling station at a county garage on Fish Hatchery Road, and $3.2 million for eight more renewable, natural-gas-powered snowplows. Wisconsin residents trashed more than 632,000 tons of food last year, enough to trap enough gas to fuel nearly 558,000 cars on the road.
